Government considering online sales tax

Following concerns over the collapse of the high street, the chancellor is considering introducing a tax on goods sold online.

There’s no doubt that the coronavirus has had a huge impact on the way we shop, with more of us abandoning the high street in favour of online shopping.

The Treasury is concerned that business rates were effectively penalising bricks-and-mortar retailers and creating an uneven playing field for high street retailers and their online competitors.
